Title: Goodbye America, Farewell NYC.
Post by: Toblacher on April 06, 2011, 02:09:28 PM
This Friday April 8th, 100 years ago, GM left America for the last time for his final journey home.

In Vol. 4 HdlG tells the touching story of the hotel manager clearing out the lobby so GM could
be helped down to his car without being stared at.

During the last few weeks before his departure, the New York papers were full of news of the
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in which many immigrant young girls, mostly Jewish, perished in
horrible fashion.  It is a shame he had to read and see pictures of this tragedy.  (I sure there
were German language papers published in NY during this time.)
