Oddly, the only Mahler scheduled with the Dresden Staatskapelle at this time is a Mahler 8 directed by Thielemann. It's funny that he's taken fancy to the 8th, being a Bruckner man. The all crucial tenor role is slotted for someone who they simply identify as "N.N.". Who the heck is that?!? . . . It looks like Gatti will hardly be there at all this season. I guess he must be pretty booked up in Italy and elsewhere (except Amsterdam, obviously). These are strange times. I'm just happy that Mahler is getting performed as much as he already is in these 'post pandemic' (maybe) times.

This isn't the first time Thielemann conducts M8th. He did it before with the same orchestra which I rather liked.

Oh, OK. I know that he did it in Munich with the Munchener Philharmoniker. I also know that he has done M3 in Dresden. I wasn't aware he had done the 8th there already. Maybe it'll get issued on one of those fancy DVD's (BluRay too).

CORRECTION: Thielemann did M8th before with MPO.
