So, this means Zinman's M9th is not too far in the future ;D :D.

John,

Feb. 19 for Germany! I for one am waiting for the Eighth more anxiously to the Ninth! ;)

Couldn't find any info on the soloists though ...

This is an odd cover (maybe an "equal opportunity" response to the M5 cover?):

Anthony Dean Griffey again?  I know I'll buy this anyway, but aren't there other tenors that are MUCH better suited for this piece?  Does he offer discount coupons on his fee if they choose him to perform M8?

That's strange because Alliance - our distributor for Sony/BMG - shows a date much later in April. There seem to be different dates posted all over the place. I guess it shows when it shows.

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon.  They claim the release date is 27 April.
$13.99 didn't seem like too much to pay in advance of sampling parts of it.

My CD just got shipped from jpc.de and (some) samples are finally available (only Part 1): Listen here.

Slow tempi in Part 1 (all of them). Good organ (great pedal in track 4). The A-flat bells one octave higher than usual. Choirs are louder than the orchestra at "Accende ...".

Update: amazon.de has samples from Part 2 as well: Listen here.

Relaxed tempi in Part 2 as well. Instrumental detail is noticeable. For opinion about the soloists I will have to hear them in full (I'm quite picky there); the choirs seem to sing very good.

More when I listened to the whole recording.

Having listened to samples, I don't have that same eager anticipation that followed sampling M6 and M7.
Anyone do and feel likewise?

It's difficult to tell much from these samples, especially since you don't get to hear the ending to either part. The tempi seem pretty sensible, and there's the usual attention to balances and phrasing from Zinman. From what little there is here, it sounds as though it's not the strongest cast ever assembled. Pater Ecstaticus seems to sound quite a bit better than Pater Profundus. Also, Anthony Dean Griffey is a big turn-off to me. I don't like him on the MTT/SFSO M8 at all. Frankly, I'd rather suffer through Vinson Cole (Schwarz/Seattle). At least he sounds more genuine, and less limp wristed than Griffey. But hey, I've certainly been fooled by these brief excerpts before.

Zoltan!,

Let's get going on this. Aufgehts! Forget about the singers - they're a necessary evil. Besides, we know that A. Dean Griffey isn't the best. Tell us about the ending to Part II.
