At those prices ($41 and $35), I can live without them, since I already own Haitink RCO and Levine BSO.

Yeah, of course. I'm far more curious about the Dresden Staatskapelle than I am about Haitink.

Hirosh Wakasugi/Staatskapelle Dresden/Sony M1st CD I purchased years ago is a sleeper!

Lyrical, poetic, fluent, yet powerful.

The orchestra is phenomenal in their refinement and poise,

Why don't they record more Mahler?? :-\

$12 USD at eMusic for an MP3 download.

I'll download it and see if it gets me out of my recent Herb Alpert rut.

It's hard for me to give a real assessment of this one.  I downloaded it with plans to listen in my car.  Unfortunately, this recording has one of the widest dynamic ranges that I've experienced and is almost impossible to listen to in a car.  I can barely hear certain passages...and then all of the sudden a burst will blow the roof off.

Sorry that I cannot help.  I've attempted to listen through to it a couple of times -- once all the way through and another partial listening -- but I think any impressions are colored by this difficulty.

No such difficulties with the Chung/Seoul M2.

Scott,

So, you got the Chung/SPO/DG M2nd? What's your impression?

I am curious to know your opinion.

Regards,

John,

Finally found a customer review of this at Amazon UK. They said pretty much what I would expect.

I just noticed this is now on Spotify if you want to hear the whole thing for free.

Cheers,
Herb
