Title: New Michael Tilson Thomas Mahler 6
Post by: Konsgaard on January 10, 2020, 08:48:53 PM
This has just been released on the streaming services. I will post my thoughts once I've listened to the whole thing. So far I am let down by the recording quality and the soft-edged orchestral playing.

I sampled each movement this morning and was also let down by this. At the start of the coda of the first movement the crash cymbal comes in a beat early and it’s shockingly awkward. I’ll have to listen to the whole thing at some point.

What's interesting is that this is in scherzo/andante order. At some point, MTT had switched to A/S, but I guess he's reverted back. Good for him.
