The sound in the Tabernacle must have been overwhelming - that magnificent organ, the fine acoustics. One can only hope that a recording can hint at what it sounded like. If ever there was a work that could use genuine 5.2 (or even better, 7.2) surround sound, this is it.

Thanks for sharing this. Maurice Abravanel's Mahler 8 was an important recording for the Utah Symphony. I look forward to hearing this new recording.

Abravanel's M8 is very underrated and I would much rather listen to it, again, than the hard driven, brittle and - thus - unmusical sounding Solti.
