Beethoven 9th
« on: June 21, 2017, 06:31:35 PM »
An orchestra I play with is planning to do the Beethoven 9th in March, 2018. I mentioned to the conductor wouldn't it be interesting to do the Mahler version? He was intrigued so I loaned him the Jarvi recording. So I wonder if anyone can tell me, is a study/pocket score available? Even a full size one. What about parts? Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

You might find some useful information here:

and here:

I don't know whether Dr. Pickett's project(s) ever came to fruition, but you might drop him an email. It seems that he could be very helpful.

Thanks for the info. I just sent him an email and I hope to get some information from him. On his website I did find that Weinberger Ltd handles the rental parts for performance, and I assume a score is in the set. But a study score would sure be nice!

Good luck with that. I would LOVE to see somebody record the entire Beethoven/Mahler cycle. I would kill to hear what Mahler did with the "Pastoral".
