Title: Mahler movement conducted by Schoenberg on YouTube
Post by: stillivor on October 31, 2011, 10:28:51 AM
Amazed and thrilled to discover this, tho' beware, it's not for those who can't cope with substandard sound.

This performance is also a bit closer than usual to performance practice in Mahler's time.

I shan't offer an opinion on the performance till others have had a chance to listen.

A fascinating find.  Thanks for this.

Healthy doses of rubato throughout the movement.  I quite liked his interpretation.  Perhaps just on the slower side of things, but I don't like hearing this movement rushed.  Even in the poor sound, I think you can hear some nice, lush, and idiomatic string playing.
