Barry, congratulations on Giants' advancement to the playoff :D.
I am sure they can handle well the Braves in the division series. But Giants vs. Philies is hard to predict.
In the AL, I just don't think Yankees will make this year because of the troublesome pitching. They may still beat the Twins (they always did in the past), but will have to deal with Rays or Rangers.
Interestingly, Larry Stone, the Seattle Times baseball critic predicts it will be Giants vs. Rangers for the WS Championship this year.
Uhm... IMO that sounds rather unlikely, but we'll see.

I'd kinda like to see the Rays go far, again. But the Twins have always impressed me with what they do on their budget, too. Maybe I love the idea of baseball in the cold air of Minnesota in October.
As for the National League, since my under-achieving Cardinals aren't in it this year, I'm kinda up in the air. I've almost always detested the Braves. (Probably because of that damn chop the fans do.) But part of me thinks it would be great if Cox could finally got another World Series win. I've never understood why certain so-called Atlanta fans have chided him for failing to deliver more World Series rings. Some of those match-ups vs. the Yankees would've responded with a win for the A.L. no matter who in the NL faced them...so why blame Cox for that? It's kinda like people blaming Peyton Manning for not having more Super Bowl Rings.
But mainly, I just want to see good baseball...so bring it on!

An analyst at MLB.com said the Philies are turning themselves into Yankees this year.
They got three of the best pitchers in the whole MLB clubs, so they seem to have the best shot at the WS.
But we all know how any postseason can turn out: little logic and sense prevail the games.
My favorites this year are (long forgotten Mariners!), Twins and Rays in the AL, Philies and Reds in the NL.

Being from Minnesota, I can confirm this statement! I don't know much about baseball, but I saw a few Twins games in September, when I was visiting Minn. last month. It appears that the Twins are doing pretty good.

I am all for the Twins. But in the past years they had tough times trying to beat the Yankees in the post season. And that's precisely the situation repeating gain this year. Well, except that this time the first two games will be in the home ground of Twin Cities. The only hope I have is that Yeankees' starting pitchers Sabathia, Petit, have not been all that great lately.

Sorry, I've been out of town. Anyway, this has been a very difficult Giants team to be in love with. Many folks have described this year's Giants season as being pure torture. Also, I've been disappointed by the Giants so many times throughout my life that I'm simply taking a "wait and see" attitude. They might get past the Braves, but things will get a lot tougher from there. It would be very strange if this particular Giants team manages to achieve what so many truly great Giants teams from the pass haven't been able to achieve. We'll see.

Next year, they will have to find a strategy to avoid Yankees in the ALDS. Then, they may be able to advance to ALCS.
Or a better solution - bribe D. Jeter to join Twins by all means, hehe ;D.

OK, they've won tonight and MOST LIKELY will win the ALCS (Rangers may grab one win using C. Lee's pitching. But I am afraid that's all about what they will get).
Will either Phillies or Giants have any chance against these monsters??

Hey Barry, it's your time, 4-3 Giants vs. Philies NLCS Game 1 (as of 9th inning).
The Phillies are stumbling, surprisingly.
Not good for them, but who cares? As long as the winner can beat the Yanks.

Anyway, I never in a million years would have thought that this year's Giants would get this far. Obviously, Cody Ross and Buster Posey have made a huge difference. Yanks and Texans is sure turning into an interesting series.

Giants just keep getting better and better. I too never expected they would come this far. It's shame Philies cannot pull the string with the help of H2O; it will be one of the biggest upsets in the MLB postseason history if they cannot force the series to game 6. We'll see.

I think Rangers might be in trouble back at their home field. First, they've lost Cruz who's been a key player in the team. Second, their record shows they are not strong at the home ground. Many predict that Rangers eventually blow up the series and let the Yanks take the crown. Oh, No!! :o :-\ I hope NOT!

Now it's all down to the Rangers and Giants.
I'd give edge to the Rangers. At this moment, they seem quite invincible - offense and pitching (think about Cliff Lee :o 8)).
Besides, I said I would root for any team that beats Yanks and I'll keep my promise. ;)

C. Lee was totally powerless. Virtually everyone predicted he will reign tonight, but he went down hopelessly.
I admit that Giants have been enjoying a MOJO spirit since the NLCS and it's still up running, but any team could hit Lee's ball easily tonight.
Also, it was as if the ball park was sucking up all the power of Giants' opponents.
Anyway, this game will go down as one of the biggest upsets I've ever seen in MLB history....and I feel that there is more to come down the hill.

The Seattle Times critic predicted with an absolute confidence that the series will be over in game 5 with the Rangers winning.
So did almost everyone else.
How oddly their fate is turning around!
It's all in their minds, nothing else.
If the Texas bullpen keep pitching the way they did yesterday and tonight, they will be looking at the Giants celebrating on their home ground this Sunday :'(.

You were off by one day, John. Seriously, I never thought that I would get to see this happen in my life time. Not surprisingly, there are many "old" Giants fans who felt that way also. When you consider how many truly great players the Giants have had during these S.F. years, it seemed as though the team was cursed in each and every post season attempt. If you had told me just two months ago that this team would win the NLCS - much less the world series - I would have said that you were drinking too much funny Koolaid. Anyway, I'll take it, and I'm hoping to get to the victory parade on Wednesday, even if only for an hour (got to work!). Maybe the "false victory parade" march tune from the finale of Mahler 6 will run through my mind.
If I conducted Mahler 6, I would have the trombones double the horns at the "false victory parade (horns fortissimo, trombones forte), just as it is in the first version. I would also have the "fate rhythm" in the timpani doubled with snare drum, bass drum, and cymbals. Then top it all of by having the last three quarter-notes of the "fate rhythm" doubled with wooden hammer strokes. Just for further dramatic flair, I would probably ask the percussionist covering the wooden hammer to actually throw it down on the floor, and let it roll down a row or two (where the horns do their unison octave drop). Why not? I want listeners leaving the hall in a state of shock.

However, for me and for better or worse it was one of the LEAST interesting, the LEAST exciting WS's I ever watched. :-[
I think Giants were lucky to face two teams - Philies & Rangers - who were going down on the hill at the RIGHT time. What made them so successful is that they took every advantage of this fact.
I was expecting to see Yankees-Philies rematch. That would have been really exciting.
Maybe it will happen next year.
P.S. After last night game, I bet Yanks would not want to get C. Lee. :P
