Christiane Karg sounds great. I like this M4 just fine. Yannick Nezet-Seguin/Berlin Phil./Christiane Karg (soprano).

One detail I really like in Mvt. 1: the passage building up to the first movement's climax, you hear every single one of those 20-something tam-tam strokes, plus the big splat at the climax itself. But even better, I like how Nezet-Seguin takes this climax slowly, as that makes it almost frightening in quality. At this tempo, the sounding of the trumpet fanfare more closely resembles the fanfare that begins the fifth symphony. It's like a pre-echo of M5. Good stuff.

I’m enjoying the slow movement. There’s a descent at 7:26, and I like how either through miking or interpretive choice, those basses are super prominent. Usually, I mainly hear the winds leading up to that note.

The climax is strong, but beautiful. Not garish.

The horns’ accenting is interesting at the start of the second movement. I like it.
