Ashkenazy/Mahler in Sydney!
« on: April 14, 2012, 11:34:35 PM »
Well,
I start a new topic(because this was the guideline from the forum "machine"), but this a reply to an older post from Barry.

Yes, Ashkenazy's Mahler 5 that I listened is outstanding. Great sound( this is a production from Exton with Japs engineers), fantastic playing from the Aussies and the music-making sensitive and idiomatic. Much more I like this instead of Gergiev, Nott and Stenz(II). I have no problem at all with the Adagieto, be it 11+ or whatever else. It is absolutely beautiful.

Sperlcso,
I bought this, and M3, online from Sydney SO shop. There is also the Exton pressing from hmv.jp-and this is in sacd. But the australian release has really beautiful digipack case and nice front cover.

Yeah, it's been a really good series so far. I have a great M3 that Ashkenazy did with the D.S.O. Berlin for Decca, that's now been reissued on Australian Eloquence. He appears to be quite good at Mahler.
