Title: new AND old performances AND even M
Post by: stillivor on December 02, 2007, 11:25:49 PM
There's a ton of posts on the latest performances.

have all the old ones been discussed?

I mean I've just played Giulini's M1 ('71), a wonderful experience. I hadn't realised how steady and grounded he could sound.

But has it been discussed already? Or am I missing something.?

And is there a reason I haven't divined for relatively few threads  on other matters than performances?

PS Could we have a smiley for 'puzzled', please?

Feel free to revist any recordings!

Theres always someone who has heard it I'm sure.

I always "search" on the old Mahler board to read about older recordings:

It would appear, Ivor, that those who are active on the Bored are primarily performance-oriented. Earlier references to written materials seem not to have gone anywhere.

I, for one, would appreciate some discussion of the Mahler literature, ranging from some of the early writings to the more recent publications. Anyone else interested?

  Hi David

Anything about the man, including latest recordings.

I was just curious if there was a particular reason why threads seem toi be mostly about recent recordings.

just a bit concerned that possible members notice the preponderance of them and push off. I don't know so, and please see my first para of this post.

Discussing new recordings is the reason I'm here!  I like to discuss before I buy if possible, and don't you feel it's interesting to hear whats current and happening in the world of Mahler, as Mahler's time is definitely here?  It seems the M2, M3,M6, M7, M8 and M9 in particular are receiving great recordings, and new ideas about these works are being explored, discoveries are still being made and etc...at least I feel so.

perhaps read up on gus and toscanini in new york.  i hear they did not get along.
you will not go wrong stocking up on old performances if you wish.  so many of them are marvelous and still sound great.
