Please make Haitink stop. Why couldn't the CSO save some Mahler for Muti or somebody else to do. At least there's a big loud chorus and organ at the end, so Haitink can only make it so boring. His recent M1 was THE dullest version I've ever heard.

Agreed. What's next, another Brahms cycle from him? I'd kinda like him to tackle M9 again, but I'm sure he'd fall short of his fine Concertgegouw recording, so why bother?

What's worse, it's on ONE disc ??? :(.
John,

I'm excited about this...I hope he only records Mahler (and Bruckner for that matter) the rest of his life! He is a great Mahler conductor and the more the better for me.

I liked early Haitink, when he did the first RCO cycle and the later Kerstmatinees. I even like some of his BPO recordings, including the 2nd.
But the Chicago stuff is just slow and boring, IMO. I agree with Barry on this. If the CSO has to record more Mahler, why not get someone else who has not already done umteen versions?

John,
That may be the one ray of light! His recent CSO Mahler has been rather stiff and slow.

You mean it may be a good sign? I said it because I thought it would be a bad premonition ???
John,
