Title: Maazel/NYP cycle
Post by: vvrinc on October 11, 2009, 04:25:13 AM
I wrote a lengthy review of the FLAC downloads (HDTracks) of this set. It was lost do to a program crash.

I have no more energy for typing but wanted to let you know that those who ignore and fail to acquire these recordings, for whatever reason, will regret it! Forget Maazel/Vienna. These have the NYP. At the moment, the greatest band in the world. (Please, don't bother to Concertgebouw-me. I love them also but they can't "cook" like this...well...maybe when Kleiber did Beethoven with them.)

Oh yeah, Maazel is a great conductor—sue me. ;) (If this orchestra doesn't want to play for a conductor, they don't. There are enough gravestones on their podium to prove it.)

Get the high-rez downloads, NOT mp3.

I'd love to hear these recordings but I couldn't download them for some reasons. Also, I am afraid the sound quality won't be that good being FLAC. I'd rather have them in CD or SACD format.

How were the M7th and M9th in particular?

John,

John,

Sorry to learn of your troubles downloading these.

The sound IS CD quality. FLAC is lossless (not like Apple lossless which degrades sound. Sorry to those of you who think otherwise). The DGG, Chandos and Linn websites also use FLAC for downloads.
