The Rattle M8 is being reissued in the U.S. tomorrow at mid-price. I forget what EMI is calling their latest mid-price reissue series, but they've all been remastered so far. In many instances, I'm sure they're just using the same remastering jobs as on their "Great Recordings of the Century" series. Anyway, this should now constitue the best Mahler 8 bargain purchase of any - unless, of course, you're a big fan of the Solti (not me).

Hasn't Rattle's M5th been remastered and reissued also?

Yes John, you're correct.
It's this one: http://www.emiclassics.com/releaseabout.php?rid=49020 (http://www.emiclassics.com/releaseabout.php?rid=49020)
And the M8 is here: http://www.emiclassics.com/releasedetails.php?rid=50026 (http://www.emiclassics.com/releasedetails.php?rid=50026)
Both are worthwile, I guess, at this price.

I'm trying the remastered version today. Predictably, it sounds a bit better than the original "red book" issue, but not quite as good as the DVD-A pressing (which sounds very good, IMHO). For 12 or 13 dollars, it's a good deal.
