I just checked the reviews on SACD.net for the Karajan SACD, and there are some problems with the sound, probably because the original DG master recordings are sometimes problematic in the first place.

That's what I was going to tell you, Todd.
Oftentimes, an extensive and intensive digital remastering like this doesn't help much because the original master tapes are already so deteriorated.
I have a theory on this:
Gain=Digital remastering - Degree of the deterioration in the Master tapes
