I can't see how he could give 9/9 (performance/sound).
There is NO way the sound quality could be rated so highly: it's one of the worse that EMI produced from Berlin's Philharmonie Hall.
OK, I am willing to give Rattle 7 or 8 for his reading: it's neither particularly good nor bad, just about average.
My rating - 8/6.
If you want to hear what BPO might have done in the symphony, try Barenboim (Teldec) or Karajan (DG).

Although DH's rating of the sound is 9, he does not offer any explanation why he thinks the sound is so good. In fact, there is no mentioning about the sonics at all! Very odd.

I don't think that the sound is THAT bad. I would give it an 8/7 (8/8 at most).

Barenboim's B9 with the BPO on Teldec is perhaps my favourite, absolutely superb.
