Here is a link to an (at least in my opinion) interesting introduction to dLvdE. 42 minutes. It also contains some rehearsal sequences with the IPO, Christa Ludwig and Rene Kollo.

Quite a fine overview of Das Lied.
Bernstein's musical and poetical response is quite stimulating and moving. His personal sense of the interrelated nature of the songs seems to me deeply felt and illuminating.
Surely one of the greatest works of the human imagination. Deep beyond explanation.
Bernstein's parallels with Keats' "Ode to a nightingale" open up windows on such a range of human yearning and struggle for consonance between the human spirit and the rigorous laws of nature.

Thank you Roffe, that was certainly worth watching, and I remember Bernstein with great affection - it was through him that I discovered Mahler, definitely a life-changing event!
