Title: I don't know 'bout you, but I love the new van Zweden/DSO M6

This is like a slightly more idiomatic and more intense Boulez/VPO M6. Timings are actually very similar. However, I think van Zweden gleams (gleans?) more out of the finale. For example, like Pappano, he takes the funereal dirge for low brass, located near the end of the finale, at almost a slow crawl (as it should be). My only, very minor complaint is that - for my taste - he could have taken the final A-minor outburst at the very end of the symphony a bit slower (ala Pappano, who does it superbly).

It's a slightly low level recording, so things really snap into perspective when you take just an extra twist of the volume knob. Great detail. This is reminiscent of Boulez/VPO, but Van Zweden is grittier yet more detailed. Dallas plays superbly. I'm afraid this is another 'keeper' for me.

Barry,

That's good news. I look forward to hearing it.

Best,

John
