Let's face it, the Vienna Phil. has had the potential to be the world's greatest Mahler 9 orchestra for decades, yet they've so seldom realized that potential. Finally, here it is, with Daniele Gatti conducting. This is from that Leipzig Mahlerfest from last year. I still think that they need a slightly more 'nimble', less heavy approach to the Rondo-Burlesque. But the rest of it is great. Wow, what a string section - and those horns!!

Gatti also has an excellent 5th with the Royal Philharmonic, on CD, and the Concertgebouw on Blu-ray.

Yeah, I think the Concertgebouw one shows a bit more depth and experience. He's definitely going to end up with a very big gig in the future. He's that good.
