44 years ago to this day, a performance of das Lied took place in the Herkulessaal in Munich with Janet Baker, Waldemar Kmentt, the BRSO, and Rafael Kubelik. Fortunately, it was recorded, so that we can re-experience the performance again and again. An absolute top ranking das Lied IMHO. I listened to it yesterday and was moved to tears in der Abschied.

Agreed. Truly great.
I'm not in anyway wanting to diminish the greatness of the Kubelik "DLvdE" by piggy-backing on to this particular thread, but I want to share a 'thumbs up' for the new one on the LPO's house label with Toby Spence (tenor)/Sarah Connolly (mezzo)/Yannick Nezet-Sequin (new conductor of Philly)/London Philharmonic. I wouldn't put it near the very top, but it is a good addition. Spence does a better job with the tenor part than usual.
