Title: PSO chooses not to respond to my inquiry re: Exton releases
Post by: barry guerrero on May 07, 2014, 03:41:07 PM
The subject heading says it all. I sent an e-mail to the PSO, asking them what is going on with Exton, and when we might expect either symphonies two or six to come out on CD. They've chosen not to reply. Long story short: can't count on it.

Suspicious, especially given the brisk release of previous installments.  I'll bet the PSO's new relationship with Reference Recordings is a factor here.

Maybe. I'm thinking it's the other way around: the PSO hooked up with Reference because there were problems with Exton. But because it's so much a matter of prestige, I doubt very much that Exton would cough up the Mahler tapes, particularly upcoming symphonies 2 and 6, to the PSO and Reference Recordings.

Let's hope SOMETHING happens, and that this doesn't become as ridiculous as the Mahler 8 issue between the Dallas Symphony and Delos (which is now about 12 years old).
