.   .   and it turned out to be Riccardo Chailly/Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (Decca) which, of course, is of the Mahler retuschen. I own that set, and the fact that I didn't recognize it is something of a testament as to just how skillfully Mahler executed his 'nip and tuck' job. I wasn't at all suspicious of it being Mahler's touch-up job. Regardless, it's a great "Rhenish"; tempos and all.

The Cambridge companion to Mahler has an excellent section on the Mahler retuschen.
