Title: Mahler on the Soundtrack: "Birdman"
Post by: David Boxwell on October 27, 2014, 07:16:01 PM
Mahler wells up out of rare moments of silence in Inarritu's showbiz satire when Riggan (Michael Keaton) believes he's achieved moments of transcendence: first two minutes of the 9th (Halasz/Polish RSO) and the first two minutes of "Ich Bin Die Welt" (Urmana/Boulez).  A stark relief from the persistent drumming provided by Antonio Sanchez.

Thanks, I'll check that out. What did you think of it as a movie?

I love "Birdman'!  It's all done as one faux-Steadicam take.  And hearing Mahler in this profane showbiz context is a pleasurable shock.
