Title: Honeck's M3
Post by: Phoenix on October 27, 2014, 11:00:44 PM
Could someone provide me with the timing of the last movement of Honeck's M3?

Thanks!

If you're considering making a purchase, it's one THE very great M3 recordings out there.

Yes, I am seriously considering getting Honeck's 3rd, not that I need another one or anything.  ;D  I'm pleased with the timing, 25:40 is very good, as far as I'm concerned.  Maybe I'll treat myself to the 3rd and 5th for Christmas.

Good move. Both of those are very good, and they may very well 'dry up' at some point. I think Exton is in serious trouble.

I don't think that the fact that the finale to Honeck's M3 is 25 minutes long is what makes it good. What makes it 'work' is the fact that the PSO has strong enough strings and brass to fully sustain those 25 minutes. It helps that they're playing in a relatively 'smallish' hall, so it never sounds small or thin.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't 19 minutes ala Solti.

.   .    .   "19 minutes ala Solti" - a truly horrible recording of M3 in every way. Both of them! (LSO, CSO).

Well, I went ahead and ordered the 3rd & 5th.  I actually found them on ebay cheaper than anywhere else (a couple of dollars cheaper).  Also got Sinopoli's M8 for $6!  Should have them by end of the week.  Looking forward to hearing them.  Hopefully I'll get to turn up the volume and shake the rafters!  ;D
