Title: incredible footage of Wien's Ringstrasse in 1906!
Post by: barry guerrero on January 19, 2015, 07:10:45 PM
This is incredible footage taken from a Strassenbahn (street car) on the Ringstrasse in 1906. What immediately strikes one is that we're only 8 years from the start of WWI, yet there are no motor cars on the Ring. You can feel that the western world was on the precipice of modernity. At 25 seconds, there's a man approaching the street car that looks to be Mahler (wishful thinking!). Incredible, do watch.

Thank you for that, Barry, a fascinating window on the world that Mahler knew.  Unfortunately I think you're right, the man isn't Mahler, and I'm not optimistic that any footage of him will ever be found.
