The rumors were true, folks. Tenor Jonas Kaufmann is scheduled to sing both vocal roles in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde on June 23 in Paris. Daniele Gatti will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees, and the program will comprise:
Beethoven: Coriolan Overture
Strauss: Death and Transfiguration
Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde

I hope against hope that it's recorded for commercial distribution!

Wild. As much as I don't care for "Parsifal", I have to say that he was pretty incredible in the Met's most recent production of it. If anybody can pull this off, it's him.

Gatti is a fine Mahler conductor, too. It would be nice to have a recording...but don't count on it. The VPO played the Schmidt 2nd splendidly last summer in London but sadly won't be recording it, either. Fortunately I managed to copy the broadcast.

I think our best hope is that it might be picked up by Arte-TV Français, whence it could be captured for posterity. ;D
