Title: M. Whun Chung on the Dresden Staatskpelle and Mahler
Post by: barry guerrero on May 17, 2016, 11:00:25 PM
No offense meant to the Seoul Philharmonic, but what a tragedy that a complete cycle isn't being recorded with Whun Chung and the Dresdeners. Check out this video. I feel that this quicker tempo for the development section of M4/I is spot on. But what a beautiful yet clear sound they make.

Whun (not Wha) Chung of course...  ;)

And I second Barry's thoughts on the quick tempo. The sound of the Staatskapelle Dresden is beautiful indeed. It takes me back to my first Mahler on disc ever: M1 by this orchestra with Hiroshi Wakasugi. I thought it was very good at the time (some 25 years ago). Will have to revisit it soon, wonder if it still suits me...
