Title: Has anyone heard Haitink/RCO/Pentatone M5th SACD?
Post by: John Kim on June 18, 2007, 08:30:28 PM
This one is from Philips analogue recording in early 70's. On my Philips CD it doesn't sound particularly good, so I wonder how the new format will bring out all the glories of the original recording.

I like Haitink's conducting in M5th both on this recording and his later edition with BPO. It's not dramatic but decent and estimable.

I've always liked his first Concertgebouw M5 - much, much more than his Berlin remake, where he stretched the Adagietto out beyond 13 minutes. That's just me. For the Berlin Phil., I'll still take Karajan in M5.

John, I think this will be released on June 30th, according to HMV Japan.
