"Of my top 10 videos. 5 are about Mahler and there's only one on Beethoven! Mahler is unbelievably popular with us. .... The Mahler Cult respects the composer, whereas the Bruckner Cult respects the idea but not necessarily the composer. In this sense, the Mahler Cult is musically healthier than the Bruckner Cult."
So, we are much better (or less toxic) than the Bruckner fanatics!

He is so right that we get hung up on the most ridiculous minor details. Perhaps maybe not Mahler eyeglasses prescription or favorite dessert, but we get fixated on extremely minor parts of the score (I do at least).
Feels good to be in an allegedly “healthier” cult than the Bruckner one.

He says both cults are loathsome but I like the word! kkk

I thought he used to be a part of a Mahlerite society?
I don’t think any of us here are legitimately a part of the true Mahler cult though. His example was Henry Louis de La Grange and Donald Mitchell being obsessed with Mahler’s eyeglasses, lol.
Is “Mahlerite” (us) different from the Mahler “cult”?

Erik,
I think DH was referring to all of those who are devoted to Mahler, addicted to Mahler. We certainly belong to them.

I'm not interested. I like D.H. best when he's talking about music I don't know yet. I think the pursuit (Mahler) is more encompassing than just fixating on minor details. I'm annoyed. I'm off doing my own Mahler 'thang', and I don't care what D.H., you guys, or anybody else thinks. The music is what matters - not conductors, not record labels, not any of that clap-trap.
