The new music director of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and SPO will record the complete Mahler Symphonies. The first release is M1st which will be performed and recorded in January 2024.

What record label? - or will they be self produced?     .    .     .   .   In my opinion, Seoul's gain is Amsterdam's loss. They really botched it. The Concertgebouw could have had a ready-made Mahler and Bruckner specialist who, like Haitink, can also do French music.

I am not a great fan of Zweden but I like his LPO M5th (available on LPO label) and RCO M7th very much (available on YouTube).

I like what I’ve heard from him: the M3, M5, and M6 that are available. Looking forward to hearing how he’s evolved with the music, and how he approaches symphonies 2, 4, and 7.

It will be especially neat to hear him conduct M4, since he was the violin soloist on the Bernstein RCO M4.

I also heard a live M9th by Zweden/NRPO (2008). Very well paced and shaped, he seemed to have a few new things to say about the symphony. DH also praised his NYPO M1st.
