Dear All,
I have been searching for Barenboim's complete CD set of Bruckner Symphonies
that was briefly available on DG some years ago. I am particularly interested in
the B6th to which I had grown to be attached through my LP. If my memory is
correct, it had such an achingly beautiful second movt. sustained masterfully at
a very slow tempo. At one point I sold the LP - it was my mistake - so I don't
have the recording right now. I'd appreciate it very much if there is a kind
soul out there who owns the recording and is willing share it with me.
Please contact me in private.
Thank you very much.
Regards,

In my recollection this is still the greatest B6th I ever heard, exciting, brooding, and achingly beautiful at such a slow tempo. DG, when are you going to reissue the whole cycle??

I, too, have been waiting for years for DG to reissue this cycle. I think it was available for about a day when it was released, and now it's almost impossible to find. I had contacted ArchivMusic about the possibility of this being reissued on their Archiv CD series, they wrote back saying it could be possible. That was a little while ago now, and still hasn't been reissued.
I haven't heard the 6th, but I know the 4th, 7th and 9th symphonies. While they maybe aren't the versions I always reach for, I certainly enjoy having them, and would welcome the whole set.

Can't help you in our search for that record, but for a beautifully played Adagio at a slow tempo I can recommend Ceibidache's EMI Munich PO CD, that is really special. Amazing string playing. His Fourth is even better.
