Title: two M8 happenings in California - 1 S.F., 1 L.A.
Post by: barry guerrero on September 01, 2008, 08:48:32 AM
Well, this ought be right up with the Giants/Dodgers rivalry. Salonen/L.A. Phil. will be doing M8 at the Hollywood Bowl in early September - next Tuesday & Thursday (not this week). MTT/SFSO will perform and record M8 in November sometime. I have burn jobs of both conductors doing M8. Both are very good, but I actually like Salonen's tempi and tempo relationships a bit better than MTT's. I wish I could get down to the Bowl for Salenen's, but that ain't gonna happen. I've already seen MTT do it twice.

Remember when Mahler 8 was one of those "once in a lifetime" concert experiences that you simply HAD to see because you couldn't know when it would ever happen again? I wouldn't be surprised it if becomes so common that I run into a performance in the subway.

Whoa, Dave!
That might require choreography for the soloists.

Don't forget that Gerad Schwarz and Seattle S.O. will also perform M8th in late September ! :D

I will be at one of the three concerts there.

I might also try to go to SF to attend MTT's.
