Do you know if it is an all-Japanese solo cast?

Like I said, I have a live concert recording from Tokyo with Inbal conducting TMSO in the Eight. It's every bit as good as his commercial recording on Denon, with tad more lively energy and urgency.

John,
Of course, mine isn't the latest SACD release you're referring to. What I have was recorded off hands during a live concert in Tokyo in early 90's.

Inbal also recorded a live M3rd on Denon with the same Japanese orchestra, TMSO. IMO, it is an outstanding M3rd that has lots of characters and local effects vividly and powerfully brought out.

One more thing; I also have a live Inbal/NHK SO M9th from the late 70's. Although the orchestra had limits in its technical bounds, Inbal's strong sense of architecture and climaxes shines through. I quite like it, probably better than his commercial recording with FRSO.

Inbal's Mahler is very special indeed.

Scott,

I believe that it is an all Japanese cast. I'll check into that to be certain.

The US$ vs. Japan Yen rate went down so much recently that I hesitate to order CDs from Japan.  :-\

No, but the Bertini M6 on Fontec is very good. I think it's a bit better than his Cologne one, actually.
