....thus I heard today.
Don't know the exact street day though it sounded impending.
I was at one of those concerts from which the recording was made.
It was a very solid M8th, only marred by the coda of Part II. that was all over in a matter of seconds. But it must have been edited from the several concerts. Let's hope they got the coda right for the recording.
John,

I welcome any well recorded Mahler 8 with sufficient organ. I'm sorry to hear that it might be yet another one where the ending is a bit rushed. Who was the tenor, if you don't mind?

Here is detailed info. It's not on Artek but SSO's own label, I guess:

It's $17.99.

John,
I phoned up the ticket office and ordered my copy today - couldn't have been easier. Even though it's got Vinson Cole (not my favorite tenor), I'm still looking forward to hearing it.

I'll place an order myself before it's all gone.
Although the final pure orchestral part was faster than I liked (but another Seattle resident and composer David Lamb reported it wasn't that fast on the night he attended), everything up to that point was very solid and sounded pretty excellent. The chorus wasn't all that big but you'll get the mighty pipe organ sound from the Benaroya Hall.
Best,
John,

. . . yeah, and there's no tambourine part that some dumb schlub in the percussion section could possibly mistake for a military side drum part either (happened with Mahler 3 in Seattle). ;)

So is this actually AVAILABLE now? When I go to the website, it lists a performance date of "Aug. 08, 2009 8:00 PM". The website is clear that you are NOT ordering tickets to a performance and are indeed ordering a CD, but I am wondering if that date represents the release date of the CD?

I think it is available NOW. A Seattle Symphony Chorus member confirmed that it came out two weeks ago for sale.

Yeah, it sounded as though they'd be sending mine out right away. I've got a feeling that this might sound really nice.

OK, just ordered -- no shipping charge either, just a flat $17.99.

Yeah, they mentioned nothing about a shipping charge to me either. Nice!
