Title: Chailly/RCOA Mahler box - is it remastered?

Anybody know if the Chailly box of the complete Mahler symphonies on Decca has been remastered? We just received a used copy at my work today, and the M1 sounded more "open", with more "space around the instruments" than I remember there being. You can hear a small bit of hall reverb too. I don't remember hearing anything like that in the original issue.

It's hard to tell anything from the credits in the booklet. They do mention the Emil Berliner Studios, which DG has used for many of their remasterings. Anyway, I plan to pick this up, as the price of it is too good to pass up.

I have heard the Chailly M6 from that box set (the one for like $70) and I agree that that there is definitely some reverb.  Let us know when you listen to more of this set.

As for Chailly's M3rd and M9th, I'd go for the SACD versions that have superior sound.

I played more of this set today - from the box set - it really sounds terrific. I played M2 (last three movements); M4 (great performance), and M8. The 8th sounded much better than I remember from the original release. I also own a DVD-A copy of Chailly's 8th, by the way.

I'd be amazed if they were remastered, as they were already modern fine digital recordings - I have the box and agree it is very good.  Never had any of the individual CDs before, apart from the M3 and M9 SACDs and I culled the former because I never really liked the performance, finding it a bit too monumental.  

I could listen to the CD layer of the M9 and compare it to the box - but heaven knows if the CD layer of the SACD is better than the bare bones CD...

Yes it is.

CD layer of the SACD >> the bare bones CD

I mean, in the case of the M9th. I wouldn't know about the M3rd.

This box sounds totally killler, even in redbook standard (M3). The Mahler 9 may be my favorite readiing I own.

Agreed. One of the very best recordings of the M9th. Expansive and thought provoking, supremely musical, with lots of sensitive and sophisticated details, magnificent playing by RCO in fabulous and spectacular sound. What more can we ask for >:( :D?
