Title: Mahler as Movie Music

Henri-Georges Clouzot gets a lot of mileage out of the slow movement of the Fourth Symphony in the last 15 minutes of LA PRISONNIERE, released in 1968.  (You can see it on Kanopy).  Is this the first use of Mahler as feature film soundtrack material?  (DEATH IN VENICE was 69/70).

Good question. Don't know. I watch a lot of b&w era movies and have yet to come across Mahler.

A romantic movie from a couple of decades ago--Somewhere in Time--makes many think of Mahler's music. 
Justifiably so, for its composer, John Barry, was very appreciative of Mahler.

I just saw an episode of NCIS L.A. where Mahler 5 was featured!!  There were a bunch of nasty, former east block operatives 'attacking' L.A.
