Title: Two bargains
Post by: Russ Smiley on April 29, 2009, 03:55:31 AM
This week I picked up a used copy of Tennstedt's M8 from ebay for under two bucks, and the week before I bought a copy of Uwe Mund's M9 for under three.  I've got to report that both of these are really, really fine performances.  Of the former, I know that EMI has reissued it with a new 'GROC' mastering, but the 'original' certainly isn't shabby, and the Arte Nova may not have a 'name' conductor or orchestra, but they really manage a totally convincing performance.  Bravo to both.

Yes, the Uwe Mund's M9 is very good, albeit everything sounds too 'orderly' for my taste.

John,

Russ,

I think that they are both really very good. Congrat's on finding such bargains. I always liked the heavy amount of organ on the Tennstedt 8th.
