I recently discovered a barnburner of a performance on youtube (

Paavo Jarvi and his (larger) Frankfurt orchestra give a truly fantastic performance of Mahler 3 (at least for five movements, the final movement is too fast for me). Nearly the entire symphony shows that Jarvi is about to become known as a first-class Mahlerian.
Jarvi has become a particular favorite of mine in recent years. He recorded one of the greatest Beethoven cycles in recent memory. The work he's done in Cincinnati is truly stellar. But I'm rather worried about his troubling tendency to take on appointments with Dutoit-level frequency. If he keeps going like this, he's going to burn himself out. And choosing Cincinnati, the orchestra that made him, as the orchestra to drop left a bad taste in my mouth.
