Kobayashi/CPO/Exton M3rd SACD - revisit
« on: February 22, 2011, 06:45:23 PM »
I've visited this recording last night in a long time and can testify that in every aspect this may be the single finest M3rd ever recorded.

The great, drop dead gorgeous sound loaded with utterly idiosyncratic playing from the orchestra, Kobayashi's keen sense of structure, romanticism, and high voltage conducting raise this one above all others.

Absolutely fabulous!

John,

No argument from me. It could have used a slightly better mezzo, but that's no big deal.

John,

Agree 100% - there is an emotional lift in the finale that is really moving also.  Fabulous performance.

Where can one find this CD in the US to purchase?  On-line samples?

HMV Japan is probably the best source. The label is Canyon Classics or Exton. I think it's Canyon.

It's currently on Exton OVCL-00182. Exton is a subsidiary of Pony Canyon, Inc.

I hunted high and low and eventually got it from Amazon in Japan.
