Rattle M8 remsastered and reissued at mid-price
« on: October 12, 2010, 06:26:07 AM »
The Rattle M8 is being reissued in the U.S. tomorrow at mid-price. I forget what EMI is calling their latest mid-price reissue series, but they've all been remastered so far. In many instances, I'm sure they're just using the same remastering jobs as on their "Great Recordings of the Century" series. Anyway, this should now constitue the best Mahler 8 bargain purchase of any - unless, of course, you're a big fan of the Solti (not me).

Yes John, you're correct.

It's this one: http://www.emiclassics.com/releaseabout.php?rid=49020

And the M8 is here: http://www.emiclassics.com/releasedetails.php?rid=50026

Both are worthwile, I guess, at this price.

Freddy

I'm trying the remastered version today. Predictably, it sounds a bit better than the original "red book" issue, but not quite as good as the DVD-A pressing (which sounds very good, IMHO). For 12 or 13 dollars, it's a good deal.
