Mahler related composition
« on: July 09, 2011, 11:52:40 AM »
Hello folks !

As we share the same love for the music of Mahler ( I guess :-)) I wanted to share a piece of my own with you
which is heavily inspired by his music.
Please give it a try, hope you will enjoy it :)
Any comments or suggestions are welcome of course !

Have a nice day all

Thank you. That was easily as good or better than much of the recent film music that I've heard. Indeed, it has some of the sound and feel of Mahler. After the 2:00 mark, I was reminded a bit of Sibelius - especially with the string tremolos going on. Could you tell us something about the performance? Were there live musicians in a studio or was this entirely digital? Somewhere just beyond 3:00, is was reminded just a bit of the English sounds of Britten and Tippet. Nice job - well done!

Barry

Thank you for taking time and listen and your kind words!

Well, since Im an amateur, cant even read sheets :'(  , it is all done with software.
The desire to compose for orchestra exists for a longer time, so do it digitally is a decent solution within my current possibilities...
In fact Im pretty happy with the sound, altough it can never sound like a REAL orchestra, it comes near, which is proved by your question:)
This is my first try of orchestration, guided only by my ear an my previous music experiences.

I'm not only impressed, I would like to know more about how someone pursues the path you have taken. Unfortunately, I'm in a period of my life where I have virtually zero free time. But someday I may have free time, and I would like to compose/orchestrate digitally.
