did friscay dabble in mahler?  i've had a good time exploring his mozart & beethoven this week & began to wonder regarding gustav.

He recorded the Ruckert-lieder with Margaret Forrester and the Bavarian Radio SO for DG in 1958, reissued in the DG Original Masters CD boxset 'A Life in Music'. 

I believe this was his sole Mahler performance.

If you can find it, be sure to check out Fricsay in Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" symphony (#6).

Yes, very fine, also the Tchaikovsky 5th.  He did both extremely well, there are 2 versions of each I think - on DG and Orfeo in each case.  I have the live Orfeo ones and think they may be the easier to find (though the Pathetique is in the DG box I referred to above) and perhaps the better versions.  And I think the DGs are in mono, though I could be wrong.

Plus his live Verdi Requiem on DG is a great one.

i have the 'requiem' you mentioned.  good mono is always enjoyable.
