« on: April 18, 2007, 04:02:13 PM »
WOW indeed. Check this out and report what you think is going on:

The bidding is at $465.10 with another day to go. Is it the art work that someone wants?  ::)

.   .    .   and to think that I saw the concert in Carnegie Hall for free (friend took me), AND bumped into Erte himself at a big birthday bash for him at some gallery in SoHo. We were invited in for the party. True story.

Lenny's DG Mahler on LP typically sells for huge loads of cash.  A couple years ago after noticing a similar sale, I immediately scooped up his Mahler 7th from a local used record store that was in perfect shape for a few dollars, then resold it for "only" $36.  I almost felt sinful at the time.  If anything, they've appreciated in value.  I love vinyl, but paying hundreds of $ for digitally recorded LPs is a little strange.  I love the cycle, but I don't think it's particularly stellar in the sound department.

But it makes me wish I had held onto his Concertgebouw Mahler 9th when I had it on LP.  I gave it up when I got the boxed set on CD.

I did a search for Lenny's Mahler on LP.  While none were going for $577, they were going for $40-$100, which seems unreal.  Maybe they are being bought by analog afficiandos with tube amplifiers who are convinced that LPs are the acme of recorded sound?
