OT - Colin Davis has passed away

Well, good grief.  No sooner did I learn of Bud Herseth's passing, I saw news of Sir Colin Davis' death.  A sad weekend.

Yes, v sad but not a bad age.  He had been ailing for a short while I think.  More renowned for his Berlioz, Sibelius and Mozart than Mahler (whose works he confessed he found 'overwrought') but I do enjoy his M4 from Bavaria.

One notable recording I love is his sensational live Elgar Symphony 1 from Dresden.

My first recording of Tosca was sir Colin's with Carreras/Caballe. Very nice recording. RIP.

Sad news. I guess I have recordings of Sir Colin conducting a little of everything including the M8 with the BRSO. I've always liked him in Sibelieus (still have the LP set). I think his recording of the Schumann Piano Concerto with the BBC Symphony and a young Stephen Kovacevich is maybe my favorite recording of that work.

RIP, Sir Colin.
