excellent Beethoven from Japan
« on: June 30, 2008, 12:27:06 PM »
Hello,
I am very pleased to see that all of you have in high esteem the performances of Mahler works from Japanese maestros and orchestras.
So I would like to inform about an extremelly good cycle of Beethoven's symphonies, in DVD,with the New Japan orchestra and conductor Gerhard Bosse.
Bosse( b.1922) was concertmaster of Gewandhaus for many years, and first violin of the Gewandhaus string quartet.
The Beethoven cycle is  filmed in excellent picture and very very good sound in the summer  2002.
The playing of the orchestra is polished and cultured( not without some imperfections, since these are totally live recordings, without editing from other concerts).Bosse's conducting is simple and straigth, in the best sense of the word, his tempos without extremes and we have excellent string playing( of course, as Bosse is violinist).
The price is very reasonable( about 7500yen, 45euros for 4 dvd), from hmvjapan, in Exton label.
