M1/Haitink/CSO - March 10 SACD/CD
« on: December 20, 2008, 06:34:34 AM »
It looks like CSO Resound is putting out Mahler 1 with Haitink on both SACD and CD on March 10.

Most of the regulars here will probably find this unnecessary, but it's worth noting.  I'm curious if they recorded and will release Haitink's M2 from this season - and what's coming down the line next season...I guess they recorded Ein Heldenben for eventual release a few weeks ago.

No timings other than the total is 57:39.

from the Fulop Mahler discography book:

Giulini/CSO: 56:07; Solti/CSO: 55:41; Tennstedt/CSO: 60:53

Personally, I like the Giulini. FYI.

"Mr. Haitink, when are you going to record Mahler Ninth again ????

We don't need another M1, M4, or even M2. Please, we desperately need a M9th from you :-[

John,

I agree...I'm waiting on the 9th from CSO.  At least the M1 is out of the way, now we're one step closer to a M9!  :)

I seem to have heard that Haitink considered releasing a live M9th with VPO. But apparently it didn't fly  :-\

I have heard Haitink-led M9th performances with RCO, Philadelphia Orch. VPO, ECYO, LPO, and BSO, and testify they are all pretty good to great. So, why is he hesitating to record it again?? ???

John,

Out of all those you mention (haven't the LSO or Philly ones though), I like the ECYO the best...those kids really play the hell out of the work...and the pacing is unlike I've heard Haitink conduct for the M9.

How about Boulez/CSO 52:48?  One of his best Mahler discs IMO.  I love the Tennstedt one, too, and am guessing that the 60+ referenced above includes applause.
