www.brooklynsymphonyorchestra.orgThe final concert of the 36th season of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra will feature the full-length vocal work Das Lied von der Erde by Gustav Mahler, at the orchestra's home at the Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity on Sunday, May 31st at 3 p.m.
Mezzo-Soprano Stephanie Houtzeel, a 1996 Juilliard graduate, made her recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1997 and has since performed internationally in various concert series and operas, including the New York Festival of Song, Musicians from Marlboro, the Chamber Series of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Styriarte Festival of Graz, the International Bruckner Festival, the Great Performers Series of Lincoln Center, the OK Mozart Festival and Brooklyn Friends of Chamber Music. Tenor Matthew Garrett, a 2005 graduate of The Juilliard Opera Center, maintains an active performing schedule both in the US and abroad, with past appearances including Houston Grand Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, Cincinnati May Festival, Opera Omaha, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Las Vegas Philharmonic, O pera Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall,Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Basel Festival Orchestra, Arion Ensemble in Montreal, National Chorale at Avery Fisher Hall, and at New York’s Church of St. Ignatius Loyola on Park Avenue.
The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, comprised of talented amateur, semi-professional and professional musicians, is one of New York area's finest community orchestras. Founded 36 years ago as the "Brooklyn Heights Orchestra," the group joins under the baton of Artistic Director Nicholas Armstrong to present five symphonic concerts per season of classical, romantic and 20th-century music. This concert is made possible, in part, with public funds.
