How did they put it on one?

Would it be wishful thinking that they will reinsert the missing trombones in IV.?

It probably won't get issued in the U.S., as Universal stopped bringing in new reissues of the DG Originals series a long time ago. I would like to have the Barenobim/Chciago S.O. Saint-Saens 3rd symphony.

But I bet they will also release their own remastered version in the near future which should sound even better.

I once heard a pirate recording of the very same concert looking for the missing trombones in IV. Unfortunately, they weren't there either .

I like this M9 very much, despite the missing trombones.  It's even more surprising that they're missing on the recording, as they performed the work two nights in a row (October 4 & 5, 1979).  Surely the trombones didn't not play both evenings??  I've always scoured the internet and have asked around to see if a reason for this trombone mystery ever came about, but have been unsuccessful thus far.

Oh well, I guess it gives us something more to talk and hypothesize about..

If you listen with headphones, and turn it up really loud, you'll hear that something happened. Somebody had a heart attack, or fell out of a chair, etc. Something weird like that happened that night. There's a noise, like somebody falling, and then a few voices talking near there. You really have to listen for it, but it's there.
