Klemperer Mahler 7th (currently only from Japan?)
« on: August 03, 2010, 09:12:33 AM »
Dear friends

Since I missed the chance to purchase Klemperer's Mahler 7th (EMI) back in the mid-90s as part of their Klemperer series, and I hoped it would be issued the GROC series which never happened AFAIK, I checked the japanese stores and was thrilled to find out that it was released in January 2010 and is still available.

Should I go for it or it or wait for a cheaper resissue? :-\

Thanks

Alex

The 2010 release is a remastering of the 1992 release (I'm sure because I have it). Being the 1992 release the first incarnation on CD of Klemperer's Seventh (I think), the 1997 one could be a remastering of the 1992 one or the Japanese pressing of the same.

When I contacted EMI about the release within the GROC series, they replied that it would have been possible, but they added that GROC was about to be considered complete.

And just imagine, if you combine Klemperer with Jarvi, you might get one normal-length performance.

That is, filtering the Klemperer through the mind of Jarvi will get you the normal tempo back! ;D ;D

So,

Klemperer/EMI + Jarvi/Chandos = normal-lenght performance

but I'd prefer:

(Klemperer/EMI + Jarvi/Chandos) - (Klemperer/EMI + Jarvi/Chandos) + Bernstein/Sony = perfect performance
